Light Under The Bridge Transforming Tomorrows
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is the age group for residents of the Lighthouses?
Lighthouses are for adults ages 18 and up. Currently, the women's program is offered for Lighthouses. Men's program is expected to begin in 2012.
Is LUTB's Transitional Restoration Homes, Lighthouses, a medical program?
LUTB believes in the faith model and concentrates on focusing attention on God and His will for those that enter the Lighthouse program. LUTB is NOT a medical facility nor a medical program. Our Lighthouse program is NOT a rehab facility. The Lighthouse Program is a safe haven for people in crisis to heal and get their lives back on track. Their crisis's vary from hopelessness, grief, domestic violence, addiction, homelessness, prostitution, abuse, divorce, and other emotional traumas. If a resident requires medical attention then they are referred to their doctor, clinic, or hospital.
Does LUTB assist those with mental illness?
LUTB is NOT a medical or psychiatric facility. LUTB is NOT equipped to assist those with schizophrenia, delusions, hearing voices, multiple personalities, and other psychiatric conditions. LUTB is only open to assist those who are able to function in an active group live-in setting. Those that have severe limitations are referred to organizations where they can find the care required for their special needs
Why is LUTB Lighthouses effective?
Some might say that it is the length of the program (12-18 months) along with the religious environment that helps people kick the habits that have been formed over the years. We believe it is because of something (or someone) we call “the Jesus Factor.” When a person finds a relationship with God everything changes. New priorities, attitudes, reactions, plans and goals in life all add up to real change. New-found life in Christ and learning biblical principles for daily living replace the old lifestyle and the attitudes and behaviors underlying them.
Is LUTB Lighthouses open to people of all faiths?
LUTB does NOT discriminate. Certainly people of other faiths may enter the program but, as they are informed of the nature of our program, they voluntarily choose to enroll in our Lighthouse program. LUTB is based foundationally on the Bible. It is our belief that applying the principles of Scripture to a person’s life will enrich their life and provide them with a path of a personal relationship with God. It is not required that a student have a conversion experience to enter or complete, but conversion is regarded as the greatest hope for healing from their crisis and transforming their tomorrows.
Do I have to participate in the religious aspects of the program to receive services?
An applicant is carefully informed as to the faith-based nature of the program and that entering a LUTB Lighthouse program is voluntary; however, all aspects of the program are mandatory upon entrance.
How can I get help?
Call the desired location, remembering that you must provide transportation to get there. Ask for the intake person and let them know you want information about entering the program. They will provide you with entrance and program information.
If a person drops out of the program, can they get their money back?
Entrance and program fees are non-refundable.
Do you have centers that are lock down?
Lighthouses are for those who voluntarily want to get into the program to receive assistance with life-controlling problems. We do not have a lock down facility.
Can I detox at your center and if not where can I go?
LUTB requires that you detox before entering the program. There are detox centers in most communities (usually your local hospital or they will refer you to where one is).
The typical Lighthouse experience lasts 12-18 months barring any unforeseen circumstances. Emphasis is placed, not on a time element, but on the evaluated progress of the resident as to when completion is made.
If I wanted to visit, will I be allowed?
All visits are on a case by case basis. Generally only immediate family is allowed contact with the resident on a limited basis. Contact between the resident and other individuals will be severely restricted for the same reasons as other programs of similar nature. All visits, including immediate family, must be pre-approved by the director and are closely monitored. Some family interaction can bring healing to our residents, while other residents are triggered by family interaction and can be caused to stumble due to family interaction. Therefore, visits are closely monitored and on a case by case basis.
Can I call or text my family member?
During different phases of recovery, phone & text privileges may be allowed or disallowed depending on the phase the resident is in. However, all calls are closely monitored & limited when allowed. Text messages are strictly prohibited. If you must speak with a resident, please call the director to arrange a phone appointment with your family member.
How do I get updates on my family member who is a resident of your LUTB Lighthouse?
All resident's information, progress, and status is kept strictly confidential. Since our residents are of adult age, any updates you receive will be directly from him/her. In the case of a medical emergency, you will be contacted only IF the resident has listed you as their emergency contact.
Can I send money to my family member?
NO! Do NOT send any money to family members that are active residents of the LUTB Lighthouse. If your family member needs money for supplies, cigarettes, medication, ect, it is better to purchase the product and send either via mail or make drop off arrangements at our offices. Money is a trigger for many of our residents that could cause them to stumble and fall back into their addictions and old patterns of behavior.
